Seizures (or fits) are states characterized by pathologically (that is, harmful) abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which is often synchronized (the presence of synchronization makes it an epileptic seizure). The symptoms vary greatly according to the specific subtype (these subtypes are distinguished by the region(s) of the brain affected by this abnormal electrical activity) of seizure experienced. Some involve loss of consciousness (that is, passing out), unusual behaviours or abnormal sensations (like unexplained pain, tingling sensations, etc.).
