Ribonucleic acid (RNA) is a structure (that is composed of a single strand folded onto itself) that similarly to DNA is composed of base nucleotides covalently-bound together. Unlike DNA, however, the nucleotides contain the pentose (5-carbon sugar) ribose instead of deoxyribose; additionally instead of thymine that is found in DNA they contain the nucleic acid, deoxyribose.
