Proteins are structures composed of several amino acid monomers covalently linked together in a sequence (which is referred to as the protein's pimary structure). These amino acids all have the potential to form weaker bonds with nearby amino acids, which in turn gives the protein its higher-order structure such as its secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure.
