Noradrenaline

Noradrenaline's 2D structure

Noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (NRIs) selectively inhibit the reuptake of noradrenaline, although they usually have some clinically-significant affinity towards the serotonin transporter (usually less than one-eight that they exert towards the noradrenaline transporter). The only two clinically-utilized NRIs are atomoxetine and reboxetine. Atomoxetine is used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder as a first-line treatment (the only other first-line treatment is methylphenidate) in most countries, it is about twelve-fold selective for the noradrenaline transporter over the serotonin transporter. Reboxetine is used to treat depression, in most countries, aside from Canada and the U.S.A., although there is evidence that is less efficacious than other antidepressants.
