MEDLINE (contracted from Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online) is a bibliographic database of biological, especially healthcare-oriented, information that contains twenty-one million references. It was created (in 1971) and is maintained by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It comprises virtually all journal articles that are relevant to the biological sciences.
