Lactic acidosis is a condition characterized by an excessively high amount of lactic acid in the blood. This leads to a lower blood pH than normal, which can lead to protein and DNA denaturation and hence potentially irreversible brain damage. Its fatality rate when stemming from biguanide is about 50%.
