Immunosuppression is an artificial state in which immune system's function is suppressed; it is usually as part of a medical procedure or treatment. Usually it is deliberately induced by medications (e.g., for organ transplantation to prevent rejection), although several disease states can also induce immunodeficiency, which is similar by caused by a disease state or congenital defect.
