Gene expression (GE), basically the process by which genetic code gets converted into proteins in the nucleus of a cell. This, in turn, gives the cell their various properties that their genetic enable them. GE consists of four major steps: transcription (which involves the conversion of DNA to messenger RNA), RNA splicing, translation and post-translational modification.
