Eukaryotes are the more sophisticated forms of life, with the simplest being prokaryotes. They can be single-celled or multicellular. Their cells contain membrane-bound organelles, with the membrane-bound nucleus being the most important organelle to the definition. Animals, plants and fungi are all eukaryotes.
